Fill a form, then lock it

The editor reads the form and gives you its fields, checking every value before it writes one. Flatten it when the answers are final and they stop being editable.

Highlight, note and sign

Select text to highlight it, or drag a box on a scan that has no text to select. Leave sticky notes, place a signature image, and flatten the markup when it is final.

See it before you save it

Every change is shown on the page as you make it. Drag a watermark where you want it, resize it, and nothing is written until you say so.

A preflight tells you what will happen and what will not — including anything that cannot be applied — before a single byte is written.

PDF editor questions

Can I fill in a PDF form?
Yes. Open a document with form fields and a Form tab appears, built from the form you uploaded rather than a fixed list. Only the fields you change are saved, so answers already in a half-completed form are left alone, and values are checked before they are written rather than quietly corrected. Flatten it afterwards to make the answers permanent.
Can I highlight text or leave comments?
Yes. Select text the way you would in any reader and highlight it, or drag a box when the page is a scan with no text to select. You can leave sticky notes, place an image or signature, and flatten the markup when it is final. Highlights use a multiply blend, so the words stay readable through the colour.
Will editing break a digital signature?
Yes, and that is true of any change: saving rewrites the whole file, so an existing digital signature will no longer validate. The editor will not let it happen by accident — on a signed document you have to confirm you understand before the save button works. Note that placing a signature image is a picture of a signature, not a cryptographic one.
How is this different from merge and split?
Merge and split move whole pages between files. The editor changes a document: stamps, watermarks, page numbers, rotation, metadata and active content. You can use both — split a long scan into parts, then edit each part.
How big a document can I edit?
Up to 200 pages and 150 MB — enough for a 200-page scanned bundle. Longer documents are refused when you open them, not after you have done the work; split it first and edit the parts.
What does a save cost?
One operation, however many changes it carries. Opening a document and checking what your changes would do are both free.
Can I apply one change to the whole document?
Yes. Watermarks, text, headers and footers and rotation all offer "This page" or "All pages", and Bates numbering always covers the document. It defaults to the page you are looking at, so nothing affects more than you meant it to. A save is one operation however many pages it touches.
Can I put text anywhere on a page?
Yes. Drop text at a corner or at exact coordinates, on one page or all of them, in any of the built-in fonts. Multi-line blocks work. Accented names, Greek, Cyrillic and Vietnamese are handled automatically. Chinese, Japanese, Korean and right-to-left scripts are not supported, and are refused with a clear message rather than drawn as empty boxes.
What happens to a signed document?
Saving rewrites the whole file, so an existing digital signature will no longer validate. You are told before you save, not after.
Does removing metadata really remove it?
Yes. The document properties and the hidden XMP block are both cleared, and the objects are swept out of the file rather than just unlinked from it — so the old title is not still sitting in the bytes.
Can I edit password-protected PDFs?
No. Encrypted files are refused with a clear message. Remove the protection first.
How long are edited files kept?
Saved documents can be downloaded again from Jobs for 7 days.
