Changelog

Stay up to date with new features, improvements, and bug fixes.

v2.14.0

— October 13, 2026

Protect and Unlock PDFs

New

  • • Protect PDF: add a password to open a PDF, or stop it being printed, copied or edited, with AES-256 encryption. In PDF Tools → Protect and as POST /pdf/protect
  • • Unlock PDF: remove the password and restrictions from a PDF you hold the password for, so it can be merged, split or edited. In PDF Tools → Unlock and as POST /pdf/unlock
  • • Files up to 150 MB and 5000 pages, done in one step with no queue
  • • Your passwords are used once and never stored or logged

Improved

  • • When merge, split or the editor refuses a password-protected PDF, the message now points to Unlock
  • • The OpenAPI spec and the Postman collection include both endpoints

v2.13.0

— October 6, 2026

HTML Templates (Beta)

New

  • • HTML templates (beta): write a template in your own HTML and CSS, with a code editor and a live preview beside it. Click New HTML template on the Templates page; it starts from a working invoice
  • • Tags put your data in the markup: {{field}} for a value, {{#each list}} to repeat rows, {{#if field}} to show something only when it has a value
  • • They work like any template: fields and test data, Generate PDF, the render API, Zapier, n8n and the other integrations, and mail merge. A render costs one PDF
  • • The editor lists anything that will not appear in the PDF, with the line it is on

Security

  • • Templates of both kinds are now rendered with scripts switched off and no network access. Values from your data are always printed as text
  • • Links in a template PDF are limited to web, email and phone addresses

v2.12.0

— October 6, 2026

Twice the PDFs on Monthly Plans

Improved

  • • Monthly plans now include twice as many PDFs for the same price: Starter is $20 for 4,000 PDFs and Business is $100 for 20,000, which is $0.005 per PDF
  • • Existing subscribers get the larger allowance from their next renewal
  • • One-off credit packs stay at $0.01 per PDF, and their credits still never expire

v2.11.0

— September 30, 2026

Mail Merge

New

  • • Mail merge: pick a template, upload a CSV or Excel file, write the email, and every row is sent its own PDF as an attachment. Included on paid plans: up to 100 recipients per campaign, and up to 10,000 on request
  • • Emails go out from your own mailbox: connect Gmail, Microsoft 365, Zoho, Brevo or any SMTP server; passwords are stored encrypted
  • • Every row is checked before sending, with a preview of each email and PDF and a test send to yourself
  • • A report shows what happened to each recipient; only emails your mail server accepts are charged
  • • Also available from the API with mailmerge.campaign.* webhooks

v2.10.1

— September 22, 2026

Long Jobs, Bulk Emails and a Leaner Editor API

Improved

  • • Bulk jobs take email_notification: false to skip the "bulk job finished" email for one job

Fixed

  • • A long job that runs past the 15-minute limit now ends as timeout, sends the job.failed webhook and the failure email, and is not charged. Before, it could stay in processing

Removed

  • • POST /pdf/extract (reading the text inside a box as JSON or CSV). It was never available in the dashboard or the integrations; the editor focuses on the changes you make to a document

v2.10.0

— September 22, 2026

Free Plan

New

  • • Every new account starts on the Free plan with 10 free PDFs and no card needed
  • • The Free plan includes every tool: HTML, Markdown, image and URL conversion, bulk conversion, the PDF editor, merge and split, templates and API keys
  • • Existing accounts that never purchased move to the Free plan with 10 free PDFs

Improved

  • • Sign up and start straight away: verifying your email is now optional until your first purchase
  • • The API Explorer in the dashboard is available after your first credit pack or subscription

v2.9.0

— September 18, 2026

More Template Starters

New

  • • The template library now has 32 starters, including 23 new ones
  • • Labels and QR codes: QR code only (50 mm), QR code poster, Wi-Fi QR card, product price label with EAN-13, asset tag, address label and name badge
  • • Events: ticket, invitation and gift voucher
  • • HR and payroll: payslip, job offer letter and employee ID card
  • • Business documents: purchase order, service report and restaurant menu
  • • Proforma invoice, credit note, rent receipt, donation receipt, account statement, delivery note and DL envelope

Improved

  • • Filter the template library by category
  • • Custom page sizes show their dimensions in the library
  • • Tables with no column headings print without a header row

v2.8.1

— September 18, 2026

Find and Highlight

New

  • • Find and highlight in the editor: type a phrase and every place it appears is highlighted, across the whole document or just the page you are on. Each match is shown on the page before you save, and the pending change says how many were found
  • • The same through the API: send the phrase and every occurrence is highlighted, with no coordinates to work out. Narrow it to particular pages, match capitals exactly, or match whole words only

Improved

  • • Highlights you select or drag now show on the page as soon as you add them, and are listed against their page rather than as a whole-document change

Fixed

  • • Sending a small PDF straight to the editor as a form upload now takes the recipe, commit token and extraction box as their own fields, the same way merge and split do. Before, the recipe had to be tucked inside options, which then lost the output filename
  • • Opening a document for editing with a form upload now returns the page ids and form fields needed to build a recipe

v2.8.0

— September 17, 2026

Forms, Annotations and a Rail That Keeps Up

New

  • • Fill PDF form fields from a panel built out of the form you uploaded, with values checked before they are written rather than quietly corrected
  • • Flatten a form so the answers become part of the page and can no longer be edited
  • • Highlight text by selecting it, or drag a box on a scanned page that has no text to select
  • • Leave sticky notes, and place an image or signature — permanent by default, or removable if you would rather
  • • Flatten annotations to make markup final, leaving form fields, hyperlinks and sticky notes alone
  • • Reorder pages, and put an image watermark on every page
  • • The page rail now shows the document as your changes will leave it, so a pending delete, reorder or insert is visible before you save — and a newly inserted page can be written on

Improved

  • • Editing a digitally signed document now asks you to confirm before saving. Any save rewrites the file and the signature stops validating, and unlike other edits that cannot be undone by editing again

Fixed

  • • Images under about 4 MB — logos and signature stamps, typically — failed to embed at all, with a misleading error. Larger images always worked, which is why it went unnoticed
  • • Starting another document after a save replaced the editor with an error page
  • • Deleting a page that had form fields on it left those fields in the document, invisible and unfillable but still reported when the file was inspected

v2.7.1

— September 16, 2026

Apply a Change to Every Page

New

  • • Watermarks, text, headers and footers and rotation can be applied to every page in one change, instead of only the page you are viewing
  • • The choice defaults to the page you are on, so nothing affects more of the document than you meant
  • • A save is still one operation however many pages it covers

Fixed

  • • "Keep only these pages" could not be used from the dashboard — it was sent without a page list and refused
  • • Page numbering ran before pages were removed, so numbering a bundle and deleting a page left a gap in the sequence, and headers using {pages} counted pages that were no longer there
  • • When a set of changes mixed page edits with deletions or reordering, the result shown against each pending change could belong to a different one

v2.7.0

— September 16, 2026

PDF Editor

New

  • • Edit a PDF you already have, page by page: rotate, delete, reorder and insert pages, add text, watermarks, headers and footers, and Bates numbering
  • • Every change is shown on the page before anything is saved — drag a watermark where you want it and resize it there
  • • Strip document metadata and the hidden XMP block, and remove JavaScript, embedded files and automatic actions, with a report of what came out
  • • Changes stack up as a list and are applied together: one save costs one operation, however many changes it carries
  • • POST /pdf/edit takes the same changes as a recipe, and POST /pdf/edit/preflight tells you what it would do without doing it, free
  • • Pages can be named by id rather than number, so a change stays on the page you meant even after earlier changes move it

Improved

  • • Bates numbering and stamps land in the corner the reader sees, the right way up, even on pages scanned sideways
  • • A save can carry a commit token, so retrying after a dropped connection returns the original result instead of charging twice
  • • Documents over 200 pages are refused when you open them rather than after you have done the work, with a link to split them first

v2.6.0

— September 16, 2026

Optional Monthly Subscriptions

New

  • • Monthly subscriptions: Starter at $20/month for 2,000 PDFs and Business at $100/month for 10,000 PDFs, alongside the existing one-off credit packs
  • • Your monthly allowance is used first, then free credits, then one-off credits — so one-off credits cover anything over the allowance
  • • Upgrade, downgrade, cancel, resume and update your payment method from Plans & Credits in the dashboard
  • • GET /accounts/me/billing now returns subscription_credits_remaining, subscription_pdfs_remaining and a subscription object

Improved

  • • The INSUFFICIENT_CREDITS error details now include subscription_credits_remaining
  • • One-off credits stay in your account and keep working if a subscription is cancelled or ends

v2.5.0

— September 15, 2026

Account Deletion and Privacy Controls

New

  • • Delete your account yourself from Settings. Your sign-in, API keys, webhooks, templates and stored PDFs are removed within minutes
  • • Cookie choice for visitors in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland: analytics only load after you accept, and you can change your mind in Settings
  • • A short, optional set of questions after sign-in about what you use PodPDF for, so we can focus on the features you need

Security

  • • Deleting an account signs you out everywhere and stops its API keys immediately
  • • Job history kept for usage statistics is anonymized, with file names, storage links and webhook addresses removed

v2.4.0

— September 14, 2026

Sign in with Google

New

  • • Sign up and sign in to app.podpdf.com with your Google account
  • • Existing email accounts link automatically when the Google email matches, keeping credits, templates and job history

Improved

  • • Email and password sign-in still works, including for accounts linked to Google
  • • API keys, JWTs and integrations work the same regardless of how you sign in

v2.3.0

— September 13, 2026

PDF Templates and Visual Editor

New

  • • Visual template editor in the dashboard: add headings, address blocks, item tables, totals, logos, barcodes, QR codes and signatures with a live preview that matches the final PDF
  • • Nine ready-made starters, including invoices, receipts, 4×6 shipping labels and certificates
  • • Generate a PDF from a template by sending JSON to POST /templates/{id}/render, from your app, Zapier or n8n
  • • Line amounts, subtotal, discount, tax and total are calculated and formatted in your currency and language
  • • A4, A5, A3, US Letter and Legal, 4×6 labels, custom sizes, and 80 mm or 58 mm receipts whose length follows the content
  • • Table headers repeat on every page, rows never split across pages, and footers can show "Page 2 of 3"

Improved

  • • Template renders are billed like any other PDF, and a render that fails validation is never charged
  • • All missing or mistyped values are listed in one error response

v2.2.0

— September 13, 2026

Merge and Split PDFs

New

  • • Merge PDFs in the dashboard or through the API: arrange files in any order and pick page ranges from each one, like "1-3,7"
  • • Split PDFs by selected pages, by ranges, every N pages, or into one file per page, and download files one by one or as a ZIP
  • • Instant merges and splits up to 4 MB, and background jobs for large files: up to 100 files, 150 MB and 5,000 pages
  • • Page sizes and rotation are kept exactly; nothing is re-rendered or recompressed

Security

  • • Webhook deliveries are signed with HMAC-SHA256 in a PodPDF-Signature header, with signing secrets you can view and rotate in the dashboard
  • • Webhooks and URL-to-PDF fetches can no longer reach private or internal network addresses

v2.1.0

— September 12, 2026

Bulk Conversion

New

  • • Convert a whole folder of HTML or Markdown files in one request: upload a ZIP and get back one ZIP with a PDF per file
  • • Relative CSS, images and fonts keep working, and folder structure is preserved
  • • A manifest lists the result for every file, and jobs where some files fail finish as partial_failed with the reason for each
  • • Up to 200 pages and 200 files per job, with ZIP uploads up to 50 MB
  • • Bulk conversion in the dashboard as well as the API, with webhook events for bulk jobs

Improved

  • • You are only charged for the PDFs that were produced

v2.0.0

— June 13, 2026

Paid-Only Model

New

  • • PodPDF is now a paid-only service — all accounts require a credit purchase to generate PDFs
